The Love Of Money
I always believed that if I could make more I would be able to pay off more of my debt, but this wasn't true. When I made more money (through working overtime) my eyes saw more and more things to buy. Temptation came and I yielded.
I was living above my means in an attempt to be happy. But I wasn't. How could I be every month Citibank, MBNA, Chase and the others wanted a payment. That was on top of the car payments, insurance payments, utility bills, pension loan, student loan payments and the mortgage payments.
Then I got a bright idea stop shopping, stop charging, stop spending what you don't have. Live within your means. Novel idea right? Well it worked for me. I reduced the credit cards to one, got rid of the pension loan, reduced my utility bills, and reduced the car insurance bills.
I guess in a sense I stopped viewing money as a way to satisfy my wants and started using it to address my needs. I stopped allowing the things I would buy to make me happy and started finding happiness in my relationships with family and friends.
As I continue on my quest money is the tool I will use to remove the noose of debt from around my neck and rid me of the weeds that are chocking the life out of my finances.
What about you? What does money mean to you?
Ecc. 5:9-10 says, "Even the king milks the land for his own profit. Those who love money will never have enough. How absurd to think that wealth brings true happiness."
